About this blog
This Blog exists thanks to June Stormcrow@Second Life. Since I've started my research for a historical novel, I've blogged more or less regularly about it on my German blog. Since the plan was to publish the novel in german anyway, I never thought about the fact that this topic might be of interest for a larger audience.
But for a writer of medieval historical fiction, I'm an incredible lucky person:
I'm living in the German city of Karlsruhe. Karlsruhe is part of the state of Baden-Wuerttemberg, and lies at the border of the German state Rhineland-Palatinate and the border to France.
In less than an hour of traveling by train or car, I'm able to reach some of the metropoles of medieval Germany, like Heidelberg, Speyer and Worms, as well as the medieval France, like Strasbourg. I'm also able to visit a lot of castle ruins or reconstructed castles, to do some on-site research.
Not to talk about the very valuable old state- or city-archives, most of them are still ages away from getting all the old documents digitized.
So, as a lucky person, I'm happy to have the opportunity to share my findings and experiences with other writers. No matter if you are the historical fiction or the medieval fantasy writer type.
